Guided Walking Holidays - Mindfulness in the Mountains

“I have come to know the closeness to Cumbrian nature that inspired the Romantic poets, such as Wordsworth and Coleridge; the meditative power of simply putting one foot in front of another over the fells; and the cheer carpe diem feeling of losing myself in the moment.” David Atkinson, The Independent, 2015

In today’s world, being busy and stressed can be the norm. Whether you are part of the corporate world, struggling to find a work/ life balance, caring for others, volunteering for a charity or simply having difficulty finding time to fit everything in, you need to give yourself a break.

Escape with us to the beautiful Lake District for a few days and replenish your diminished energy by giving yourself some time to reflect on life and develop some tried and tested coping strategies.

Mindfulness in the Mountains will give you the opportunity to do just that, to really live in the moment without distractions or unnecessary concerns. The core activity will be walking in the fabulous restorative countryside around Buttermere, following some classic Buttermere based routes such as Haystacks and Rannerdale knots.

Some of the walking will be in silence with targeted activities to help you to connect with your surroundings and yourself. There will be time set aside for reflection and, if you are interested, resources to help you to familiarise yourself with techniques and theoretical concepts.

In addition, there will be opportunities to participate in some gentle yoga and short meditations. These activities will be suitable for both beginners and seasoned practitioners, planned as a generic restorative practice. The yoga practice will also pay attention to those areas of the body that support walking activity, ensuring that you can make the most of both the physical and mental activity.

As Jon Kabut-Zinn observed ‘Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally'. Be prepared to reconnect with yourself and discover the beautiful landscapes of the Lake District.

Hassness Country House

Hassness Country House provides a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere for each and every guest. All our bedrooms have stunning views; whether it be of the rugged and imposing hillsides across the water, garden views or Lake Buttermere views. At Hassness you’ll take a step back from the frantic world beyond the fells. It’s far enough away yet convenient for the main tourist hubs of Keswick; this is a quieter, less trodden part of the Lake District with dramatic and tranquil scenery. Managers Debbie and Laurie will make you feel welcome. We know you’ll love it! The lounge at Hassness is a delightful place to relax, with a large picture window looking out across the lake. Comfortable and welcoming, it’s a great place to enjoy your own company or that of your fellow guests. Accommodation is in very comfortable twin, double and single rooms. The house has been refurbished for the 2018 season and all bedrooms have been renovated, creating some en-suite rooms. Those bedrooms with shared facilities have a hand basin in the room and high powered shower rooms are across the hall from the rooms, which cater for all guests comfortably. Toiletries and towels (both hand & bath) are provided for each guest. Hassness House offers a retreat from today’s always connected world. There's no TV, no phones in the rooms, and no mobile reception in this sparsely populated valley of West Cumbria. If you do need to contact the outside world there is a payphone available and Wi-Fi is also available throughout the house - in the bedrooms and the lounge.
