Walking Among Wildflowers in Andorra

Hiking in Andorra 3rd – 10th June

I have just got back from leading D+ and C+ walks with a second leader, John Phelps, in Andorra. Despite the snow preventing access to some of the higher peaks (and making some of the lower walks quite exciting in places), we completed a full week’s walking.

The additional snow and delayed spring meant that some special alpine flowers were still in bloom – ones that last year at the same time were just shrivelled stumps! Notable amongst these were the dog’s-tooth violet (not actually a violet, but a member of the lily family) and the wild tulip.

Also striking were the swathes of wild daffodils in places, along with Andorra’s national flower, the pheasant’s eye narcissus. Even the hardened peak-baggers in the party were impressed by the flowers, whilst those who had come for the flowers were down on their knees – not praying, but taking photographs!
