Hiking Clothes You Can’t Go Without

Ramblers Walking Holidays | Thu 07 Jan 2016

However, we can’t stress how important it is to wear the right gear when you’re going for a long hike – too many people have made the mistake of just throwing on shorts and a t-shirt!

First of all, remember to work from a good base – with a good base layer! When you walk on an incline with an increased heart rate, you’re producing much more sweat. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you don’t need a base layer just because it’s summer! You need a breathable base layer, preferably made from Merino wool. This New Zealand wool is soft and plush, works by absorbing water within its own fibres. After that, all you need is a short sleeved top, quarter length leggings and a light waterproof jacket.

As every experienced hiker knows, for long treks two pairs of socks is a necessity – woollen ones over synthetic is the best way to do it!
