The Serengeti is lion country. As the setting sun lights up the plains, roars reverberate in the distance as local disputes are settled and precedence in the pride reconfirmed. This is the animal kingdom in its most raw and pure form.

The Serengeti is probably the most iconic national park on earth, but it is not the only jewel in Tanzania’s crown. Our journey begins at the base of Kilimanjaro. From here we head west to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for water birds, flamingos, hippos and baboons. This experience is matched only by the magnificent of Ngorongoro Crater, a veritable Garden of Eden. We enjoy a safari on the crater floor amidst the densest collection of mammals on earth.

Next is the Serengeti where the variety of wildlife is overwhelming – lion, cheetah, giraffe, gnu, zebra, antelope – they are all here, and we have enough time to see them all! In the Tarangire National Park our focus is on its huge elephant herds, which can be found scratching the dry riverbed for underground streams.

The core of our walking will take place in the Usambara Mountains located in the north east of Tanzania. We walk between villages and admire spectacular viewpoints, meeting friendly locals on the way.

Our journey ends with a more relaxed pace on the exotic spice island of Zanzibar. We spend one night in Stone Town, before moving to the east coast for some seriously tropical R&R. If golden sand beaches, palm trees, swimming and snorkelling in turquoise waters don’t grab your imagination, we have also arranged a spice tour of the island.

This holiday is the perfect blend of walking, safaris and relaxation. Lace up your walking boots, pack your camera and swimwear, and enjoy!
