FROM THE SERENGETI TO ZANZIBAR

A Journey through Northern Tanzania.

The Serengeti is Lion Country. As the sun sets across the plains the roars can be heard loud and clear as local disputes are settled and dominance in the pride reconfirmed. From ‘Born Free’ to ‘The Lion King’, here the iconic plains are the source of inspiration for filmmaker, artist and author. From Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, we head west to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for water birds, flamingos, hippos and baboons. Next is the magnificent Ngorongoro crater, a veritable Garden of Eden. We enjoy a safari at the crater floor amidst the densest collection of mammals on earth.

Then on to the Serengeti where the variety of wildlife is overwhelming. And in Tarangire National Park we go in search of its huge elephant herds. We can enjoy scenic walks in the Usambara Mountains located in the north east of Tanzania. We end our journey on the exotic spice island of Zanzibar, off the Tanzanian mainland. We spend one night in Stone Town and then move to the east coast for some seriously tropical R&R.

WALKING GRADES

Grade 4 walks are either half or full days, with walks of approximately 3 or 5 hours at a moderate pace over hilly terrain. Expect ascents and descents of up to 600m. Departures with a sightseeing element will be accompanied by a local guide for a minimum of half a day. The Pioneer grade indicates that the local conditions, facilities, and transport could be basic and holiday itineraries may change at short notice - but the experience will be well worth it!
