Overview
This one month exploration of the Canary Islands is a winning combination of our 7 night Fuerteventura, 7 night Lanzarote, 7 night Tenerife and 9 night La Gomera holidays.
Our first week kicks off on your journey through these diverse islands from Fuerteventura, the least developed among the Canary Islands, escaping the extensive coastal development seen on other archipelago islands. Basking in year-round sunshine with an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, the island boasts an equable, dry climate, making it an ideal destination for walking holidays with its coastal trails and expansive remote beaches.
This geologically captivating paradise, characterized by rare rainfall, offers a plethora of volcanic rock formations, creating an otherworldly landscape. Exploring the red rocks of the interior feels like venturing into an alien realm. The island's interior showcases ancient volcanoes, dry steppes, and rolling sandy hills adorned with stone terraces. Charming villages, housing some of the oldest churches in the Canaries, reflect the relaxed and welcoming pace of life embraced by the locals.
Fuerteventura's popularity for walking holidays is on the rise, with an expanding network of marked paths. A trek through the island's middle leads to the historic town of Betancuria, the Atlantic's inaugural European settlement. One notable journey begins in Costa Calma, traversing the island's spine to the opposite coast, returning via an alternate route.
In Corralejo, a ferry transports walkers to the neighbouring Isla de Lobos, where a circumnavigation unveils ocean vistas and glimpses of nearby Canary Islands. A southern highlight is the breath-taking view of the remote and stunning Cofete beach, making each step a memorable exploration of Fuerteventura's natural wonders.
Seven nights in you will move onto Lanzarote's volcanic wonderland, renowned for its natural richness and exclusive wildlife. Beyond the famed volcanic cones and sandy beaches, you'll find a haven for walkers, featuring palm groves, vineyards, white-washed villages, and captivating mountain vistas. This northernmost Canary Island, a UNESCO Biosphere reserve, safeguards over 40% of its terrain for exceptional biodiversity, showcasing endemic plants, volcanic tubes, salt marshes, and untouched beaches.
Starting from Haria, the Valley of a Thousand Palms, follow ancient trading paths to Teguise, the island's former capital, boasting panoramic views of La Graciosa and surrounding islets. Traverse the Timanfaya National Park, a mesmerizing expanse of ancient lava fields encircled by towering volcanic cones. Wander through lush palm groves and vineyards, breathing in the crisp mountain air along the way.
Your base in Arrecife, the island's capital, provides convenient access to explore the diverse landscapes. With a rugged coastline, deserted sandy beaches, and welcoming rural villages, every walk concludes with a tranquil spot to savour the scenery. With temperatures rarely dipping below 20°C, the island offers an idyllic setting for you to unwind.
Your next weekly stop is a quick hop to Tenerife, a captivating island of contrasts! Your base in San Cristobal de la Laguna offers exploration on foot, revealing the island's architectural gems, including the impressive cathedral. Venture beyond to the rugged Anaga Peninsula, where sheer ridges and green mountains boast breath-taking sea views.
A highlight awaits as you as you join a local guide and ascend Mount Teide Volcano by cable car, reaching the summit for unparalleled views at the Pico Viejo viewpoint. Afterward, a leisurely day unfolds on the lower slopes and the iconic Roques de Garcia.
Maximise your choice in walking grades while on Lanzarote and Tenerife by making the most of have two walk grades and two leaders on hand offering greater flexibility to your explorations.
Despite Tenerife's popularity, your journeys lead to lesser-known trails, unveiling the island's history shaped by Mount Teide's eruptions. The result is a rugged, volcanic landscape that adds a unique charm to your walks.
The final nine nights of what has already been an eventful three weeks will be spent discovering the wild landscapes, dramatic scenery, deserted beaches and sleepy mountain villages of La Gomera. A tranquil haven away from bustling tourist hubs, La Gomera, accessible only by ferry, unveils a pristine natural beauty that time seems to have forgotten.
As the ferry approaches from Los Cristianos in Tenerife, initial impressions may deceive, with the island appearing barren. However, hidden gems emerge swiftly, showcasing traditional Canarian white villages, majestic mountains, pine forests, and breath-taking cliffs. La Gomera boasts unique wildlife, adding to the island's allure and providing a genuine pleasure for explorers.
Valle Gran Rey serves as your island hub, a coastal retreat just an hour from San Sebastian, the capital. Nestled along the seafront, your hotel is conveniently close to the beach and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Garajonay National Park. Short bus rides from the hotel lead to magnificent walks, unveiling the true beauty of valleys and seascapes. Traverse paths alongside mountain streams, winding through fertile valleys teeming with lush vegetation and tropical mountain panoramas. Two Grades, Two Leaders, Two Walks
On ‘2x Walks, 2x Leaders, 2x Grades’ departures, where we provide two tour leaders and offer a choice of easier or harder walks each day, we hope to be able to accommodate your choice of walk. However, safety considerations do govern the sizes of groups in each walking grade; the minimum number of participants for a guided walk at a given grade and the maximum group size will be as indicated for the walk grade.
On most departures we are able to accommodate most clients' first choice of walk most of the time, however some flexibility and co-operation may be required. In unusual circumstances where a disproportionately high number of clients wish to walk at one grade, for safety reasons, we may not be able to provide you with your choice of walk each day. Although we will endeavour to accommodate as many clients’ choices as possible, it may be necessary for you to switch between higher and lower grade walks during the holiday. Any decision regarding group sizes and the participants in the day’s walking programme rests with our tour leader(s).
For safety reasons the minimum number of participants on a walk will be 4 plus the leader.

It’s a condition of booking that you obtain adequate travel insurance, from a reputable provider, to undertake the holiday, including UK trips chiefly due to the cancellation element of cover.
The policy must cover the period from the date of booking to the last day of your trip and should include, as a minimum, cover for: medical expenses (including the consequences of a Covid positive test result), mountain rescue including helicopter rescue, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment and shall not have exclusion clauses limiting cover for the activities you will partake in on your trip, including altitudes reached in the holiday arrangement. It is your responsibility to check that your policy is adequate for the nature and destination of the holiday booked.

Our house broker MPI should be considered for whom we are an affiliate and contact information is on our website and will be referred to in your booking confirmation.
If you are travelling to an EU country or Switzerland please also ensure that you have either an existing valid EU EHIC card (European Health Insurance Card) or a valid UK GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card). You can apply for a UK GHIC free of charge on the NHS website at https://services.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/cra/start.
EHIC & GHIC Cards
Starting January 1st, 2021, you, as a UK traveller, can continue using your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) throughout its valid five-year period, granting you access to medical assistance during your holiday until its expiry date. Be aware, though, that this coverage will no longer extend to Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland. In case you don't have a valid EHIC, you can apply for a new UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), which will replace the EHIC as it gets phased out.
It's essential to emphasize that the EHIC/GHIC, while valuable, should not be regarded as a substitute for comprehensive medical or travel insurance. For your peace of mind and comprehensive coverage, considering additional insurance is highly recommended.
