During our time on Rhodes, our walking programme will take us across to the other side of the island, on coastal and inland tracks, passing traditional villages with quiet, shady squares and by ferry to the nearby island of Symi, with its picturesque harbour.
Examples of the walks we plan to include in our programme are as follows. Please note that times noted are actual walking times. The length of the walking day will be longer.
Lindos: This day allows plenty of time to explore the town and walk up to the spectacular Acropolis with views across the Bay of St. Paul. Ascent / descent minimal (although steps up to the Acropolis); 2.5 miles; 1.5 hours.
We can extend with a coastal walk out onto the headland to visit Kleoboulos' tomb (3 miles).
Archangelos to Efra Piges (Seven Springs): A really beautiful walk through quintessential Greek countryside. Olive trees, goat herds, shepherds and country chapels finishing at ‘Seven Springs' – A shady oasis built by the Italians to irrigate their citrus groves. Ascent / descent 100m; 3 miles; 2 hours.
Salakos: A visit to the small of Profitis Elias Church and a short walk through open and wooded foothills. The path is not steep as it zig-zags but it is rough and stony. Ascent negligible / descent 450m; 3 miles; 2 hours.
Symi: Taking the ferry from Rhodes harbour, make the crossing to the island of Symi where there is time to explore the main Chora or perhaps take an option castle walk that offers splendid views.
Filerimos: After a visit to Ancient Kamiros, continue to Filerimos to see the stations of the cross and the monastery. Our walk with a picnic stop ends at the Kallithera springs with time for a swim or relaxation in a beautiful setting.
There is also a free day for you to explore on our own, relax at the pool or beach or perhaps visit Rhodes Town.
