Spectacular mountains, wildlife and jaw dropping scenery
Canada really is Mother Nature at its finest and when you hit the walking trails, you’ll understand why. Soaring mountain peaks meet with lush cascading valleys, home to an incredible wealth of wildlife that call the mountains home. Scenery is filled with electric coloured glacial lakes, snow-capped mountains and natural views. For sure the most opportune way to explore Canada and the national park network is on foot!
Upon arrival in Vancouver, one of the world’s most beautifully situated cities, take time to discover the sights of the waterfront, Stanley Park, Chinatown and Gastown, before moving on by scenic ferry to the adventure playground that is Vancouver Island. Savour harbour views as we sail into Victoria, the island’s capital. Our hotel is in Sooke, where the rainforest meets the sea. Whilst on the island, we walk part of the Juan de Fuca long distance trail in Provincial Park. Following the rugged Pacific coastline, this walk is aesthetically beautiful and offers the opportunity to spot a host of wildlife. Of course, we couldn’t let you leave without a boat trip in search of Orca whales, which Victoria is so famous for.
We return to the mainland and continue our route into the Rockies and the majestic mountains of Whistler. Known primarily as a ski town, in summer the snow melts exposing a rugged alpine wonderland just waiting to be explored. It is during this brief window that Whistler comes alive; wildflowers (late summer) and plants are in abundance plus wildlife is at its most active. We walk along the turquoise shores of the Garibaldi Lake trail, plus enjoy a gondola to the top of Whistler Mountain to hike the High Note trail, said to be one of the most scenic trails in the area. Our next destination is Revelstoke, where we break the journey with a stop in Kamloops in the Thomson Valley. Whilst it may be a famous rail junction town, we go in search of Alpine wildflowers and wonderful hiking including the Battle Bluffs trail. Just when the mountain scenery can’t get any more inspiring, we arrive into Revelstoke in the Kootenay Rockies. Outstanding views of rugged mountains, crisp glaciers, lush forests and wild waterfalls await. Take a full day to explore the alpine meadows, and scenic Eva and Miller Lakes area. Our journey continues to the town of Golden and the gateway to both Glacier and Yoho National Parks. There are plenty of walking opportunities including the Balu Pass and Iceline trails.
Naturally, no trip to the Canadian Rockies is complete without a visit to Banff National Park, where mountain scenery is renowned the world over. Here we are spoilt for choice, so we have included some of our favourites. Sentinel Pass begins with breath-taking views of the Valley of the Ten Peaks, towering above the stunning Moraine Lake, and it only gets better from here! The Bourgeau Lake trail is a lovely walk which scales the slopes of Mount Bourgeau to a small alpine lake above the Bow Valley. Finally, you’ll travel to Calgary for our return flight back to the UK.
Please note: some departures operate from Vancouver to Calgary, and others in reverse Calgary to Vancouver. See the individual dates for details.
