Classical Andalucia
Discover Andalucia's magnificent architectural heritage on our walking tour in Spain
OverviewOnce the capital of Andalucia, Seville, our base for five nights, is the start of our exploration of Spain’s magnificent architectural heritage. The city has many fine buildings, amongst which are the cathedral (reputedly the largest Gothic church in the world) and the Alcazar, originally built as a fort for Seville’s Muslim rulers.
Cordoba, our second centre, was the biggest city in Western Europe during the tenth century and was a place where Christians, Muslims and Jews lived in harmony. There are many splendid reminders of this era, fascinating old buildings, beautiful patios and the famous Mezquita mosque around which Cordoba centres itself.
Our final centre, Granada, was considered the finest city in Iberia in Moorish times. Here are narrow streets, a beautiful cathedral and churches, and (opposite our hotel) the Alhambra, a palace fortress originally of the Nasrid Sultans. We have time to visit the Alhambra, the cathedral and the old city itself, spectacular by day or night.
