Another Mediterranean Masterpiece
Superb walking and sightseeing in France and Spain
OverviewThe land where the Pyrenées meet the azure waters of the Mediterranean is one of great beauty, colour and warmth.
This holiday is based in two centres. The first is Collioure, with its castle, beaches and ’pink pepperpot’ church tower. Matisse painted here; many say it is the most attractive of all small towns along the Mediterranean coastline of France.
From Collioure there are wonderful walks in richly scented hills, and along the rocky coastline. Not far away is the regional capital, Perpignan, with its 13th-century Palace of the Kings of Majorca.
Crossing the border into Spain, our second base, the pretty Catalan fishing village of El Port de la Selva, is a great base to explore the region. Two of Spain’s long distance paths take us to the picturesque town of Cadaques and the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes and north towards the French border. Art lovers can visit the Dali museum in Figueres. Our hotel Porto Cristo is beautifully located just a few metres from the beach and has plenty of facilities to help you unwind after a good day’s walking.
