A Cultural Week in Istanbul
A fascinating walking holiday in the enthralling city of Istanbul.
OverviewIstanbul, European Capital of Culture for 2010, will astonish you. Turkey is a secular state, yet each morning you will be woken by the muezzin calling the faithful to prayer. Westerners are welcome in mosques and we will visit the finest this city has to offer.
We sightsee, mostly on foot, both the Turkish and European quarters. Istanbul feels very exotic; we’ll mingle in the greatest market place in the world, discover Constantinople, capital of the Eastern Roman Empire: the Hippodrome, the Valens Aquaduct, the Basilica Cistern and the Theodosian city walls.
In the city itself we walk alongside the Golden Horn, the river dividing the two European parts of Istanbul, into the old city and Beyoglu. Turks are rightly proud of their city, because geographically, historically and culturally there is no other like it on earth.

David started in the company as a leader in 1991 and spent 5 years leading pretty much all over the world. He now travels as much as possible with his wife and daughter rather than leading groups.![]()
