In June and September follow in the wake of Conquistadors, Atlantic fishing fleets and pirate ships. Besides our time at sea we also cruise the Gironde and Garonne rivers, as well as following the serpentine loops of the Guadalquivir all the way to Seville’s Golden Tower.

Avilés - This old seafaring city has an historic centre with colonnades, wrought iron balconies and oriel windows. From just north of Avilés we walk along the coastal cli¬ s, with Atlantic rollers crashing below, to the viewpoint at Cabo de Peñas.

Vigo - In this Spanish port close to the border with Portugal we visit the town with a local guide and make our way up to the viewpoint at the top of the Parque do Castro for views over the estuary and out to sea.

Seville - The city of Carmen is the beating heart of Andalucia, colourful, sultry and exotic. We explore the orange-blossom scented streets of the Barrio Santa Cruz, discover the shady patios and ramparts of the Moorish Alcázar and visit Columbus’ tomb in the Cathedral.

Cadiz - The city of the Spanish Armada still has an intimate link with the sea. We walk the narrow streets of the old town with a local guide and visit the central market for a chance to sample some delicious chocolate y churros.

Bordeaux - After sailing along the Gironde estuary we arrive in the world’s most famous wine city. Our shore excursion takes us deep into Médoc wine country, home to so many world-famous chateaux. A walk through the vineyards is followed by wine tasting at Chateau Lamothe-Cissac.

Fred.Olsen adopts smart casual dress code

This means men can wear open necked shirts, chinos and dark coloured jeans, and women a dress or casual separates.

Capable of comfortably accommodating up to 929 passengers, Braemar has a un-crowded, intimate feel, with friendly staff. Large windows bathe the ship's public areas in natural light and provide spectacular views. One of the focal points on Braemar is the beautifully painted, five-deck-high Atrium area, while the cascading outside decks at the stern really enhance the ship's elegant profile and offer stunning vistas no matter which outside deck you're on.
