The home of cross country skiing...
Cross-country skiing in Norway is everything you ever imagined it could be… and more! The snow record and quality are fantastic. As cross country skiing is the national winter sport, there are excellent facilities and abundant well-maintained tracks to suit all abilities (125 miles in this area, including the famous long distance Troll Trail).
Much of the skiing is on gently sloping, open plateau and lakes, perfect for new or experienced skiers. We include formal instruction on the first morning thereafter our leader will assist and encourage.
Whilst temperatures are often low, the low humidity and low wind chill reduce the feeling of cold and Rondane’s latitude (similar to northern Scotland) means there is always ample daylight.
The Rondane Spa hotel is beautifully located in a quiet hamlet, at the end of the road. From here only occasional snow scooters and dog sleds go out to remote cabins. The hotel is beautifully appointed with free access to a large indoor pool, saunas and quiet lounges with log fires. It is well located on the edge of Rondane National Park, where much of our programme takes place. There’s no need to ski everyday; if you’d like to rest, just relax at the hotel by one of the hotel’s roaring log fires.
This holiday offers exceptional value for money and includes virtually everything. Unlike many areas there are no trail fees, transport costs or picnics to be bought. Picnics (including filling flasks) are made up from the substantial breakfast buffet at no extra cost. Evening meals are very good, with options for those on a special diet.
