Whatever your age or fitness level, you can be part of the fastest growing fitness activity in the world. More than 10 million people around the globe are taking up Nordic walking as the sociable way to enjoy the great outdoors and boost your fitness at the same time.

This holiday is designed as a good introduction to Nordic Walking, so if you're averagely fit, and can walk for three to four hours, you're likely to be able to cope with the demands of this break. It's easy to learn, on easy lakeside path and Lakeland forest trail terrain, and great fun!

Originally known as Ski walking (used by Cross Country skiers as a Summer training activity), Nordic walking is just ordinary walking made up to 40% more effective by the use of specially designed poles and using your upper body as well as your legs. With the correct technique, you can give yourself a good aerobic workout, strengthen your upper body and reduce the stress on the joints. It’s a great form of exercise and uses around 90% of the body’s muscles.

After an introduction to Nordic Walking techniques and a little practice of the basics in the grounds of Hassness, we’ll venture out on our first Nordic walk around Buttermere under the careful eye of our instructor. We’ll also have further training walks on the trails in Whinlatter Forest and on the paths above and alongside Derwentwater. This is quite an energetic break so we’ll take time out for a relaxing lunch each day.
