NEW ZEALAND & AUSTRALIA FLY-CRUISE

Iconic coastal cities and spectacular nature

The sights and attractions of the lands ‘Down Under’ have to be seen to be believed. We cruise on the small and comfortable Black Watch and sail from highlight to highlight. We’ll sightsee cities with magnificent skylines, rated as the most desirable places in the world to live. We’ll walk amongst diverse landscapes evoking mythical worlds and visit spectacular sights with geysers, gorges and golden beaches. We’ll sail the Great Barrier Reef off the east coast of Australia.

This holiday begins with an overnight hotel stay in Auckland at the beginning of the cruise and an overnight in Cairns before the return flight.

Our unique shore walks and excursions include:

Auckland: We spend two days in New Zealand’s largest city, spectacularly located between two oceans, exploring this modern metropolis and also walking in the Waitakere Ranges National Park with more than 16,000 hectares of native rainforest and coastline.

Rotorua: With a local guide we take a hike in the Waimangu Valley before visiting the geothermal area with its jaw dropping geysers and Maori heritage

Wellington: We use a local guide to explore the world’s ‘coolest‘ capital with its vibrant arts scene and active outdoor lifestyle before relaxing on one of the capital’s many beaches.

Milford, Doubtful and Dusky Sounds: Black Watch cruises through some of the most spectacular scenery in and Dusky Sounds the world. Be sure to have your binoculars and camera at the ready for viewing bottlenose dolphins, fur seals, and penguins as you glide through some of the world’s most incredible natural wonders.

Sydney: Two full days in Sydney give us time to fully explore this wonderful city, including the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Manly Beach and the Sydney Harbour National Park.

Brisbane: With a local guide we explore the Gold Coast beaches and flora & fauna of the forests, with some of the best views of New South Wales.

Great Barrier Reef: We have two full days cruising this World Heritage listed site with Barrier Reef the opportunity to scuba dive, fish or take a sail boat trip from Hamilton Island.

Cairns: Our final stop, where we explore the city of Cairns, Port Douglas and the beautiful Cooya Beach. Here we’ll catch and cook our own lunch before overnighting at a beachfront hotel.

    Black Watch

Before the jet set arrived, cruise ships were once the height of style, charm and sophistication and Black Watch harks back to the heyday of the cruise liner. Delightfully relaxed in mood and reassuringly human in scale, resplendent Black Watch offers you the best of all cruise worlds. Having undergone a refurbishment of the ship’s public areas in late 2009, her fresh sophisticated décor with many traditional cruising features ensures you feel welcome from the moment you step aboard.

Black Watch has a total of 423 cabins and carries 804 passengers (standard occupancy). The ship has a friendly attentive crew of 330. On board facilities include two swimming pools, a fitness centre, a sauna, a beauty salon, a sun deck, Jacuzzis, several lounges and bars, a card room, library, internet room and restaurants. The ship has a medical centre, and a shop where you can buy essentials such as sun cream or toiletries. There is also a launderette and ironing room on board.

After dinner in the Glentanar Restaurant there are always shows, reviews and evenings of cabaret for your entertainment. Choose from the Neptune Lounge for an evening show or perhaps head to The Observatory for an after dinner drink. If we return late to the ship, or if you would like a more casual dinner, the Braemar Garden Café will make you very welcome.

Our accommodation is in twin cabins with shower and WC. All cabins are equipped with individually controlled air conditioning, television, hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities. Black Watch has a non-smoking policy for all areas of the ship. Allocated cabins will be an outside cabin unless you have paid a supplement to upgrade. Your cabin steward will keep your cabin in immaculate condition throughout your stay, replacing any linen or towels as or when required. Separate towels are provided for poolside use. Safes are available at reception. Black Watch operates a satellite telephone system, with telephones in each cabin, and personal mobile phones enabled for international roaming should work on board.

The voltage on board Black Watch is supplied at 110 volts – 60 cycle (a U.S. style 2 pin plug is required) and 220 volt 60 cycle (requiring a continental style 2-pin plug). If you are in any doubt as to the appropriate voltage to use your electrical appliances on board, please check with the ship’s Reception Desk. Adapters are usually available for hire on board, or may be bought at the ship’s shop. Payment on board is in Sterling, and a credit account system is operated on board allowing purchases to be charged to your account which must be settled at the end of your cruise – see the Currency section for more details. Our ‘once in a lifetime' cruise in the continent of Australasia, covers a world of unique experiences. From the glorious cities of Auckland, Wellington, Sydney and Cairns to the ancient Maori culture of Rotorua, the breathtaking Milford, Doubtful and Dusky sounds, to the Great Barrier Reef.  We use local agents and nature guides in most ports for our walks and excursions. So whether we are on a walking tour of Wellington or a hike in Australia’s Gold Coast, you’ll get to know these two Commonwealth countries as few others will.

This is primarily an easy walking holiday, interspersed with sightseeing at the major towns of the continent. We will experience some wonderful excursions & sights. And at the end of each day return to Black Watch for an excellent dinner & the chance to talk over the adventures of the day.

On board ship all meals are included and you start the day with breakfast, a buffet arrangement where you can choose from fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts, a full English breakfast, cheeses, cold cuts, breads, pastries, fresh juices and unlimited tea or coffee.

We’ll take our lunches onboard on cruising days and when we’re out for the day we’ll be provided with a packed lunch.

Dinner is taken in a stylish restaurant with smiling courteous waiting staff creating a wonderful atmosphere for your evening meal. We are booked for dinner at 18.15hrs to allow you plenty of time to also enjoy the evening entertainment if you wish. Don’t forget your formal wear, as you will be encouraged to ’dress for dinner’ on one or two occasions.

And if this is not enough, there is also morning coffee, afternoon tea and extensive late night suppers to indulge in!  We’ll also have an exclusive drinks party for our group one evening in addition to the Captain’s welcome and farewell parties and a traditional afternoon tea with waiter service on one of our sea days.
