Terrific Tunisia

Neil and Margaret Hancox | Mon 13 Dec 2010

Hannibal’s Kingdom – 6th November – 20th November

Margaret and I would like to thank Ramblers for a marvellous holiday. We really had a super fortnight.

Our Tunisian guide, Monta, was excellent – knowledgeable, helpful, pleasant and prompt and Francoise, our tour leader, was also excellent. She was always cheerful, very helpful and on top of things (even when there were difficulties).

Neither must I forget our driver Eddie. We always felt safe with him.

Another feature that enhanced the holiday was that all the members of the party got on so well together.

The country itself was amazing in so many ways. Magnificent mosaics, the Bardo museum in Tunis, and even better, the museum in El Djem ( El Gem maybe!). Then there were the Roman remains (those Romans got everywhere!), endless deserts, totally blue skies, and exciting mountains.

Undoubtedly the fact that we were there when the temperature was no more that 18 – 24C was ideal. I would not have liked it any hotter. Another feature that I have noted before in North Africa was the quality of the light.

On the downside a couple of points: we would have preferred a little more walking and the bus was a bit too tight a fit. Someone always had to sit in a seat over the wheel arch and, although Francoise always volunteered to do this, a little more room would have been helpful.
