Time to daydream

Here’s a chance to sit back and dream about your next walking adventure, let your imagination come with us and discover some of our world's most exciting places to walk in, from the comfort of your home.

Are you sitting comfortably; ready for a heady experience normally best experienced on foot?

Let's start with one of the most beautiful areas of the British Isles, the English Lake District,  famed for its stunning scenery, created over 2 million years of glaciation. A UNESCO World Heritage site where you'll find England's 4 highest mountain peaks, formed more than 450 million years ago. On a clear day if you climb to the top of Scafell Pike, 978 m (3,209 ft) you’ll  see peaks across WalesIreland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. Windermere the largest natural lake in England at 11 miles long with 18 islands dotted along its length. The most visited National Park in the UK the Lake District has inspired so many including William Wordsworth, Alfred Wainwright and is the perfect base to stay with us at our hidden gem - Hassness Country House wonderfully located on the shores of Buttermere, ideal for great days of walking and relaxation.

Be amazed by the Alps whether you enjoy the exhilaration of winter sports or hiking through beautiful summer scenery. The Alps, formed about 300 million years ago, has the highest and most extensive mountain range in Europe and stretches approximately 1,200 kilometres (750 miles) and across eight Alpine countries: Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia and Switzerland. Mont Blanc is the highest point at 4,810m followed by the Dolomites and Matterhorn.  A great place to get close to nature as the Alps are habitat to 30,000 species of wildlife. Experience alpine culture as you pass through farms and forests. Savour local traditions such as cheese making which continue to be an important part of Alpine culture. We love the Alps both in the winter, offering Winter Spirit holidays and in the Summer where we enjoy the simple pleasures of fresh air, exercise and great food as we discover the best of the Alps on foot.

It’s time to slow down and indulge in some ‘Pura Vida!’ (pure life) and experience some of the most natural vistas on Earth in Costa Rica. A rugged, Central American country with rainforests and coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific, known for its tropical beaches, waterfalls, volcanoes and biodiversity. About a quarter of the country is protected jungle, full of incredible wildlife. With more than a quarter of the country’s landscapes protected and a variety of distinct climatic zones separating the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. This is a great destination for the walking explorer to immerse in Costa Rica’s wild side and surprising wonders of nature and organic culture.

Finally, welcome to Nepal, a landlocked country between India and China, famous for having the highest peaks in the world, including Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga. In fact this small country has eight of the 10 highest peaks in the world! Imagine waking up to the incredible iconic Annapurna Mountain range views and gently discover the culture beneath away from the tourist trail. Or enjoy some Himalayan mountain walking, trekking, teahouses and to Chitwan National Park, home to tigers, rhino and birdlife. Of course for those who are looking for a challenge there’s the Annapurna Circuit one of the world’s iconic and visually stunning hikes, or of course there’s always Everest where you can trek to the base of the world’s highest mountain!
