Klosters, a Walkers Paradise

Wed, 06 Jan 2016

We have led 2 tours to walking holidays to Klosters so far and the Swiss hospitality, wonderful mountain trails and FREE mountain transport (cable cars, gondolas, chairlifts, trains and buses) mean that we are never stuck for ideas for new routes! This is a deluxe walking holiday for the enthusiast – there is so much to see: glaciers, waterfalls, deep gullies and flower-filled meadows ‘Julie Andrews’ style! the last tour we lead was a “2X” two-leader tour, so this blog post simply divides the days of the tour to show the diversity of walking that was available. The group tended to divide evenly between D+ and C grade walks. Try ‘Googling’ the key words for more info on the individual walks….

Day 1: After flying to Zurich, we catch the train to Landquart, then on to Klosters in good time for check in, then dinner in the Hotel Sport.

Day 2: D+ walk up Monbiel valley, via Selfranga woods to the Alp Novai picnic site. Return via the Berg Café for a drink and down to the hotel by 5 o’clock.

C walk Monbiel Valley, via Alpenrosli for coffee, then on to the Alp Novai picnic site for lunch with the other group! Return via Selfranga woods.

Day 3: Both groups catch the Gotschnagrat cable car to top station.

D+ walk up Weissflujoch via Parsenhutte and Parsenfurgga. Chairlift down to mid station, then Panoramaweg to Gotschnagrat top station for cable car down.

C ridge walk to Weissflujoch via Napes Needle and Parsenfurgga. Descend viaStrelapass, and Panoramaweg to Funicular mid station. Descend to Davos Platz for train to Klosters.

Day 4: Both groups on train to Davos & cable car up Jakobshorn.

D+ walk to Sertig Dorfli, then on to Sertig Waterfall and back to Dorfli for drinks. Bus and train back to Klosters. .

C walk Tallifurgga ridge, and down to Teufi for drinks. Walk to Duchli, then bus to station Davos Dorf and train to Klosters.

Day 5: Both groups walk to Klosters Dorf (via shop for picnic supplies) to Madrisa gondola.

D+ walk Madrisa to Schlappin, via Zugenhuttli, Furggaboden and GemsliRestaurant for drinks. After lunch, descend East side of valley to Hotel.

C walk Saaser Calanda & Ratschenhorn. Fabulous clear views. Tricky descent to col at Ratschenjoch, with some snow fields to cross. Return via Obersass to Madrisa top station. Drinks before gondola descent and short bus ride Hotel.

Day 6: Both groups catch Berghaus Vereina Minibuses.

D+ walk Runwanderweg circuit then, after coffee at Berghaus, descend via footpath to valley, with lunch in forest en route.

C walk over Jorifluelafurgga Pass to Wagerhus, via the wonderful blue lakes. Return via bus to Davos Dorf and train to Klosters. A favourite walk.

Day 7: Both groups catch train to Davos Platz.

D+ walk to Monstein, via Hauderalp and Oberalp, then a restaurant in Monstein for a locally brewed beer. Apparently, this high altitude brewery is the highest in Europe and is famous for offering “the last beer before heaven”! Afterwards, walk down to valley level and catch trains to Davos and Klosters.

C walk Ducantal valley, via Fanexfurgga Pass, Oberalp and Monstein (for the local beer, of course!). Catch Postbus and train to hotel.

Day 8: Both groups catch hotel minibus to station for our journey home after an amazing week of walking…..
