Cinque Terre – Sights, Scents and Sea

Ramblers Walking Holidays | Tue 26 Jan 2016

The Cinque Terre is a string of centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. Colourful houses and ancient vineyards cling to steep terraces set amid some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Europe. Al and Jane Sarjeant have just returned from leading a group there, and were once again captivated by its beauty.

What a delightful region this little corner of Italy is. I don’t think I have ever been to a place where the astonishing scents of the flowers in May have followed us around on every walk, where the views round every corner have led to gasps of delight from the group. Or where many of the walks end in a boat ride with incredible views along the coast.

The Cinque Terre villages all have an individual character; many of them are built nestled into the cliffs or perched high up above the rocks. All of them are painted in pastel shades like the palette of an artist, contrasting with the blue of the sea.

The walks are varied and interesting, the hotel superb, and by the end of the week you will have captured the real spirit of one of the most stunning places in Italy.

We hope you can join us there next time!
