An adventure in Burma

Thu, 21 Jan 2016

After years of isolation, Burma (also known as Myanmar) is beginning to open up to tourism. For the solo traveller, it might seem a slightly daunting destination, but Hilary Rhodes is glad she overcame her worries and joined our Burmese Explorer trip.

I can't believe it's two months since I arrived back from my Ramblers Worldwide Holiday in Burma (Myanmar). First of all, I'd like to say what a fabulous time we had. I was apprehensive before I went (would I meet up ok, and all the usual ‘what ifs’) but all I can say to anyone who has never travelled alone, go with Ramblers and you'll enjoy every minute.

Our guide, Annette, and Burmese guide Thander were super. Everything went well. I would have liked to do more walking; maybe a trek from Kalow towards Inle Lake could be planned for the future. I was quite happy to be without phone, emails etc. in Myanmar – just back to basics!

I'm looking forward to my next Ramblers holiday; I do enjoy looking at the brochure and wondering where to go next.
