Hydra and Poros, even with their close proximity to Greece’s mainland, feel a world away from Athens.

Guided Walking Holidays Hydra and Poros

Hydra and Poros, even with their close proximity to mainland Greece, feel a world away from the metropolis of Athens. Experience this journey with Ramblers Walking Holidays.

The rugged limestone hills of Hydra rise above the town and the island’s well maintained trails lead to monasteries and small beaches. It’s not often you can roam freely, sharing the roads and pathways only with donkeys. No cars, no noise – island exploring in total tranquillity. This lovely laid-back island, is an artists’ colony with many of the shops offering highly original jewellery and ceramics.

A short boat ride brings us to the neighbouring verdant island of Poros, a complete contrast to Hydra. The quiet countryside offers walks through pine tree forests, some ending at the water’s edge, and offering sea views. We’ll see the remains of 6th century Poseidon’s Temple, picturesque Russian Bay and perhaps enjoy a short ferry ride to visit Epidauros on the Peloponnese mainland.

While the islands offer some of the best spring and autumn walking, they come alive in the spring with colourful floral displays.

Holiday Highlights

  • Explore the motor vehicle free island of Hydra and admire the first view of the island on arrival by ferry.
  • Walk through pine clad Poros and swim from local beaches.
