Sailing the Rhine and Moselle Rivers
Enjoy the highlights of Germany’s romantic Rhine & Moselle Rivers, dipping into Switzerland and France along the way. We’ll sail through the Rhine Gorge with its dramatic deep canyons and past sloping vineyards and colourful villages.
SHORE WALKS AND EXCURSION HIGHLIGHTS:
Basel - With an authentic Old Town and fascinating museums Basel is Switzerland's oldest University City. Its historic landmarks include the large market square with its richly decorated red sandstone town hall and the late Romanesque-Gothic cathedral.
Strasbourg - We explore the city, including the many heritage sites making the entire centre a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later we visit one, possibly two, vineyards where we will enjoy a guided tour and tasting.
Speyer - We spend the morning with a local guide exploring the town once home to one of the most significant Jewish communities in the Holy Roman Empire.
Manneheim - Over lunchtime Brabant moves on to Mannheim. Our late evening departure allows us to visit Heidelberg with its magnificent castle and tour of the city.
Rüdesheim - We take the cable car for spectacular views over the Rhine valley, descending gently back to the port.
Koblenz - This is where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. A short journey across the river by cable car brings us to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, the second largest preserved fortress in Europe.
Cochem - We spend the morning visiting the restored 11th century castle and strolling along the waterfront, with its pretty pastel coloured buildings.
Cologne - With a local guide we explore this delightful town; including a visit to the ornate, twin-spired UNESCO listed Cathedral.
