About Fred: Fred was born in Zimbabwe, but until 2010, when he came to live in the Peak District, had spent all of his adult life in South Africa. Fred worked for many years in the hotel industry but then opted out of city life and trained as a game ranger at a safari lodge. After meeting Karen, another of our leaders, in the Drakensberg, Fred made another career change and came to work for RWH as a leader. He has led throughout Southern Africa and has been very much involved in the setting up of new tours in the region including the new RWH tour to Zimbabwe.
Fred also leads in Italy (Sicily is one of his favourite destinations) and has led for a period of four months in New Zealand.
Fred used to lead tours throughout the year but now works in retail. On his day off he can be found on Kinder (regardless of the weather) and when on leave he co-leads with Karen. He particularly enjoys more demanding grades of walks.
