Full and half day walks at a moderate pace over hilly terrain.
Most of these holidays have an element of sightseeing as well.
Half day walks will probably involve about 3 hours of walking, with full day walks having around 5 hours. Expect ascents and descents of up to 600m.
Overview
Malham Tarn is surrounded by spectacular limestone scenery, forming part of the National Nature Reserve, and home to wild woodlands, rare species and bird life. Formed during the ice age, the tarn became a magnet for herds of wild animals and hunters during the Stone Age, with archaeologists discovering remains of campsites and stone tools along the shoreline.
Malhamdale is one of the most visited areas in the Yorkshire Dales, and has some of the most spectacular examples of limestone scenery in the whole of the National Park and beyond. The region inspired a generation of artists, more recently with David Hockney. Wordsworth wrote two poems about the area, and also inspired Charles Kingsley to write "The Water Babies".
The scenery is craggy and remote, with far reaching skies, perfect for striding out and stretching your legs. Rocky paths lead us to the waterfall at Janet's Foss, the inspiring Gordale Scar and the ever impressive Malham Cove. We'll explore ancient limestone pastures, upland hill farms and of course Malham Tarn itself. The area is cross crossed with miles of dry stone walls running up impossible looking slopes to limestone scars above picturesque villages and hamlets.
The beauty of staying at FSC Malham Tarn is that all of this is on our doorstep and offers the best location for superb walking in God's Own Country.

We would always do our utmost to give you plenty of notice should we have to do this. Selected elements of this tour, including local attractions and restaurants, may change at late notice. Please ensure you have valid insurance cover before you travel.

Ignore the gated track and watch out for a sharp right hand turn down a slope at the end of the woodland.
NB Do not take the road from Malham that goes past the Listers Arms Hotel as this becomes a gated track.
From Settle / Hawes (Kendal, Preston, M6)
Take the B6479 to Langcliffe (do not follow the signs to Malham from Settle town centre) and turn into Langcliffe at the sign ‘Malham 7 ½’. Follow the road for 3 miles up a steep winding hill, down to an isolated farm and up another long hill. Bear right at the top of the hill at the sign ‘Malham 4¼’. After just over a mile the road forks at a small copse. Bear left here at the sign ‘Arncliffe 5¾’. (Do not take the road back to Malham). Continue for another mile, past a sharp right turn and a gated track. At the far end of the woodland watch for a sharp right turn.
The final turn is marked with a small sign to the Field Centre. Follow the track for ¾ mile, through a narrow rock cutting to the large building at the far end.

The Ramblers Holidays Charitable Trust
Unlike many tour operators we have our own trust through which RWH Travel’s profits are channelled back into a variety of outdoor, walking-related or environmental conservation projects in the UK. The focus of the Trust’s financial support is Britain’s leading walking charity, The Ramblers, and their role in promoting the benefits and importance of walking to the British public. In addition the Trust welcomes applications for small grants from local organisations in the UK who need support for walking-orientated activities. This includes the establishment of footpaths and bridleways, funding for rebuilding bridges and renovating huts, as well as bursary funding for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for children who could not otherwise afford to do it. Please visit the ‘About Us’ section of our website and click on the Charitable Trust link for more details.
Heart and Sole
We appreciate that we are in a fortunate position to be able to use our profits to help make a difference to people's lives. Heart & Sole is a venture managed by our office staff, whose aim is to reach the heart of the communities in the countries we visit. Through Heart & Sole, we hope to make more of a long term, direct impact to these communities, particularly in less developed countries where even a small amount goes a long way. See our website for more information and details of some of the projects we support.
Mobile Phones
Please do provide us with a mobile phone contact number. We will only use this to contact you with important information relating to your holiday arrangements.
Do keep your mobile phones switched on and readily available when travelling to the airport or if delayed in transit so that we can contact you with any last minute information relating to your travel arrangements.
As a matter of courtesy, please switch off your mobile phone during walks, or endeavour to minimise its use. Please also try to minimise the use of mobile devices during group meals.
