To reach Kirkby Stephen
By car: Kirkby Stephen is 12 miles from junction 38 of the M6. There is limited parking available at the rear of The Black Bull Hotel in Kirkby Stephen and it is on a first come first served basis. If you are able to park at the hotel car park, your vehicle can be kept there are collected at the end of the holiday, however you do so at your own risk. If there are no spaces available in the car park, we suggest parking on the road to the rear of the building on Faraday Road, which is a quite road with no restrictions. There is also a free car park on Christian Head. Alternatively, the Pennine View campsite has secure parking for a fixed daily rate. By rail: Kirkby Stephen is served by the Settle - Carlisle railway line (operated by Northern Rail) to check their train schedule, times are fares see: www.settle-carlisle.co.uk Note that Kirkby Stephen station is some 2 miles from the actual town.
By coach or bus:
the following local buses operate from Kirkby Stephen: The 571 service (on Mondays only) between Bough and Kendal and the 574 service (on Tuesdays only) between Penrith and Kirkby Stephen are both operated by Cumbria Classic Coaches. A National Express services operates to Penrith (but not from Kirkby Stephen) from many destinations in the UK.
Returning from Robin Hood’s Bay:
To the South: take the M1/M18 or A1 to the A64 via Malton and Pickering.
To the North: take the A1 or A19 to A171 or A170.
To the West: take the M62 to Hull then the A63 / A165 (coastal route) Or M62 towards Hull then A614 Howden, A163, B1249, A64 (country route).
By rail: There isn’t a train station at Robin Hood Bay, the nearest station is Scarborough reachable by a bus or taxi from Robin Hood Bay.
By coach or bus: Arriva operates a bus service to Scarborough and Middlesbrough passing through Robin Hood Bay.

Meeting your tour leader and fellow walkers: Please aim to arrive at the hotel in Kirkby Stephen at or before 6.30pm and your leader will be there to introduce themselves and inform you of the evening’s dinner arrangements. Your leader will brief you with an outline of the planned programme for your holiday and you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow walking companions.
