Walking grade

Grade 5

Grade 7

This is a Grade 5 & 7 holiday. Our grade 5 includes full day walks with moderate amounts of ascent and descent. The paths are mostly good, but there may be some steep and rough ground. Walks will last up to 6 hours and could involve as much as 750m of ascent and descent. Some walks will be less demanding but equally rewarding where as some will be the very top of the grade but well worth the effort.

For Grade 7 stamina is the key to this challenging grade. There is plenty of ascent and descent over rough and steep ground, so a steady foot and a good head for heights is advisable. 800-1,000m of ascent and descent in a day is likely to be the norm throughout and you will generally be walking for up to 7 hours.

See the 'Proposed Itinerary' section for more information.

Due to the typography of the mountain's we are walking in, exposure, scree slopes and tricky paths can be expected.

Overview

Holiday Highlights

  • Experience nearly every type of mountain terrain and path!
  • Enjoy a visit to Lake Bled.
  • Discover the subtle history and charm of this walkers paradise!
  • Relax at our lake side accommodation in Bohinj.
  • Decide between two different grades of walking.

Traverse the peaks, deep valleys and gorges in the shadow of Triglav and stop to take in the crystal clear waterfalls and lakes. At higher levels you’ll cross open meadows, lush green valleys and climb above the tree line for walks along rocky ridges.

Slovenia is situated in the heart of Europe, bordered by Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. Slovenia enviably remains unchanged and unaffected by the huge crowds of tourists that descend on the French and Austrian Alps.

It offers walkers and nature enthusiasts a wonderful outdoor experience. At their Eastern end the mighty mountains of the Alps spill over into northern Slovenia. Here are the Julian Alps, first class hiking country.

Our two centres, Kranjska Gora and Bohinj, are located in the north west, not very far from mountain passes that lead into Italy and Austria. Kranjska Gora, beautifully situated in the Sava Dolinka Valley. A popular ski resort in winter, this mountain village is ideally placed for some exhilarating walking with some fantastic higher level walking routes in the summer months. There are alpine forests, open meadows and lush green valleys, and some great rocky routes above the treeline – some easy scrambling and a head for heights may be required. We can take the occasional lunch at a hut and sit back to enjoy the views.

As we transfer between our centres we stop in picturesque Bled for some personal exploration or another optional walk around the lake.

Our second centre is Bohinj, a delightful mountain village in an enviable location; next to the picturesque Lake Bohinj and overlooked by Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia. We’ll walk the landscapes around Triglav amongst beautiful peaks, deep valleys and gorges, waterfalls and lakes.

Quite simply, with two leaders, two grades, you could be on some of the most picturesque walks in Europe!

  • Return flights from London to Ljubljana
  • Airport and centre transfers
  • Half board en suite accommodation with breakfasts and dinner in hotel
  • Two walks, two leaders, two grades
  • All local transport costs
  • Entrance fees (unless otherwise specified)
  • Personal expenses (such as your bar bill)
  • Discretionary tips

Cultural Awareness

Responsible Travel

We're committed to ethical tourism in all our destinations. Our holidays are designed for you to discover the essence of the country you are visiting. Travelling in small groups not only gives you an up close and personal experience of your destination, but minimises your impact on the immediate environment. We feel that the most important starting point to protect the environment is to be out in it. For more details visit our website.

The Ramblers Holidays Charitable Trust

Unlike many tour operators we have our own trust through which RWH Travel’s profits are channelled back into a variety of outdoor, walking-related or environmental conservation projects in the UK. The focus of the Trust’s financial support is Britain’s leading walking charity, The Ramblers, and their role in promoting the benefits and importance of walking to the British public. In addition the Trust welcomes applications for small grants from local organisations in the UK who need support for walking-orientated activities. This includes the establishment of footpaths and bridleways, funding for rebuilding bridges and renovating huts, as well as bursary funding for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for children who could not otherwise afford to do it. Please visit the ‘About Us’ section of our website and click on the Charitable Trust link for more details.

Heart and Sole

We appreciate that we are in a fortunate position to be able to use our profits to help make a difference to people's lives. Heart & Sole is a venture managed by our office staff, whose aim is to reach the heart of the communities in the countries we visit. Through Heart & Sole, we hope to make more of a long term, direct impact to these communities, particularly in less developed countries where even a small amount goes a long way. See our website for more information and details of some of the projects we support.

Staying In Touch

Mobile Phones

Please do provide us with a mobile phone contact number. We will only use this to contact you with important information relating to your holiday arrangements.

Do keep your mobile phones switched on and readily available when travelling to the airport or if delayed in transit so that we can contact you with any last minute information relating to your travel arrangements.

As a matter of courtesy, please switch off your mobile phone during walks, or endeavour to minimise its use. Please also try to minimise the use of mobile devices during group meals.
