The coast, villages and countryside of the Eastern Algarve and then explore the treasures of this most westerly corner of Europe.
Enjoy snowshoeing from Font Romeu, a picturesque village high in the French Pyrenees.
The Pyrenees are beautiful at any time of year, but in winter their craggy peaks are made all the more beautiful by a blanket of snow, so come and join us to explore this winter walker’s paradise. We stay in Font Romeu, a charming French resort which enjoys a spectacular mountain setting with stunning views of the surrounding mountains into Spain and Andorra. The resort has a friendly, laid-back atmosphere and our hotel is situated right in the heart of the village. Font Romeu holds the reputation for being the sunniest ski resort in France with an impressive 3,000 hours of sunshine every year. (Happily, it’s high enough at 1850m not to melt the snow though!)
Our snowshoeing walks will take place in the surrounding, beautiful scenery and our experienced local guide will ensure that we take the best routes, allowing us to explore otherwise inaccessible winter landscapes, across undulating ridges, through forests and over frozen lakes, whilst we breathe in the clean, fresh air and enjoy the fantastic light for which the area is renowned. All this made all the more enjoyable by the tranquillity that is experienced by walking in the snow in peace and quiet.
Afterwards, there will be time to explore the village and maybe sample a late afternoon cup of tea in one of the village’s elegant teashops, or simply relax in the hotel’s own rooftop health club, with jacuzzi and sauna, and amazing views of the Pyrenees to enjoy. Alternatively, why not pay a visit to one of the local thermal spas and immerse yourself in the healing (warm!) waters of their outdoor pools – a truly magical experience as the sun goes down.
Healthy exercise combined with relaxation and rejuvenation in the heart of the mountains – all the ingredients for a wonderful holiday!
