SHORE WALKS AND EXCURSION HIGHLIGHTS:
Budapest - We’ll visit Buda’s castle district, seeing the Szechenyi Chain Bridge which spans the Danube & splits the districts of Buda & Pest and if time allows take the funicular to the Royal Palace. We’ll also spend some time in Pest and visiting the Jewish Quarter with a local guide.
Kalocsa - Kalocsa is one of Hungary’s oldest towns and among the country’s most important religious centres. With a local guide we visit the compact centre, with its jumble of boulevards, narrow alleyways and ornate squares.
Belgrade - A local guide shows us the city’s historic monuments and museums including St Sava Temple, Kalemegdan Fortress and Knez Mihailove Boulevard which leads to Skadarlija where we have lunch. We walk back to the ship through the city with free time to explore.
Vidin - Onto our 3rd country, Bulgaria, Vidin’s fascinating past can still be seen today, in the town’s mix of architecture. The Baba Vida Fortress is a highlight of our visit.
Ruse - We walk through Svoboda Freedom Square passing by The Opera house, Holy Trinity Church and into Batemberg Square from where transport takes us to The Natural Park of Rusenski Lom, a wonderland of dramatic cliff faces and rock formations and beautiful riverside terraces. It is also home to Egyptian vultures, lesser kestrels and eagle owls.
St Gheorghe - We take a small private boat into the heart of the UNESCO-listed Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve and Sahalin Lagoon to explore the marshlands in search of the flora and wildlife. We’ll transfer by tractor to St George beach and take a guided village walk.
