Walking in the Penedès hills and Garraf Natural Park
A balmy day, a beautiful walk, and a glass (or two) of locally produced bubbly – sounds like bliss! Experience the Penedès, with its gentle rolling hills, is Spain’s main Cava producing region and the village of Sant Sadurni d’Anoia with Ramblers Walking Holidays. You can find over 100 wineries, large and small, dotted throughout the countryside. Trails weave their way through the verdant landscape of vineyards and bodegas offer a welcome rest stop.
Contrast this with the rugged limestone landscape of El Garraf Natural Park, home to a variety of flora and fauna and characteristic stone farmhouses which dot the horizon. Elements have eroded the hills over time to form caves, potholes, and gorges. Much of the park presents a Southern Mediterranean landscape with pine and mastic trees, the Mediterranean fan palm, low lying gorse, rosemary and thyme. On a walk with our local guide, we'll discover the different wild plants and their many uses.
From the picturesque coastal town of Sitges, which has a lovely beach, long promenade, iconic church and plenty of cafés and restaurants, we’ll explore the surrounding natural beauty of the Penedès and El Garraf and there will be time for you to visit the vibrant city of Barcelona or perhaps, historic 'Roman' Tarragona, both of which can easily be reached by train. Our October departure coincides with the Penedès Cava festival, which we will take time to enjoy.
