COAST, COUNTRYSIDE & CAVA!

from £POA
The Costa Barcelona is so much more than just the vibrant city of Barcelona.

A balmy day, a beautiful walk, and a glass (or two) of locally produced bubbly – sounds like bliss! Experience the Penedès, with its gentle rolling hills, is Spain’s main Cava producing region and the village of Sant Sadurni d’Anoia with Ramblers Walking Holidays. You can find over 100 wineries, large and small, dotted throughout the countryside. Trails weave their way through the verdant landscape of vineyards and bodegas offer a welcome rest stop.

Contrast this with the rugged limestone landscape of El Garraf Natural Park, home to a variety of flora and fauna and characteristic stone farmhouses which dot the horizon. Elements have eroded the hills over time to form caves, potholes, and gorges. Much of the park presents a Southern Mediterranean landscape with pine and mastic trees, the Mediterranean fan palm, low lying gorse, rosemary and thyme. On a walk with our local guide, we'll discover the different wild plants and their many uses.

From the picturesque coastal town of Sitges, which has a lovely beach, long promenade, iconic church and plenty of cafés and restaurants, we’ll explore the surrounding natural beauty of the Penedès and El Garraf and there will be time for you to visit the vibrant city of Barcelona or perhaps, historic 'Roman' Tarragona, both of which can easily be reached by train. Our October departure coincides with the Penedès Cava festival, which we will take time to enjoy.

Our Accommodation on this holiday

Below is the accommodation featured on this holiday. If you are on a multi-centre holiday, these are highlights of the places where we stay. Please refer to your Holiday Information sheet (which can be found under View Departures & Book), for your departure date and for all your accommodation details.

Hotel Galeon, Sitges

The Hotel Galeón is set in the heart of Sitges, a short walk from cafes, bakeries, restaurants, and the splendid beachfront with its iconic church. The weekly market is held close to the hotel and the train station is nearby, making a day trip to Barcelona or Tarragona easy. Winding alleyways end in squares or quiet corners with lovely coffee shops offering wonderful pastries, ice creams and local delicacies and are a lovely place to while away a few hours. The hotel consists of two buildings, one behind the other, with the rooms either facing the street or over the courtyard. There is a small garden and swimming pool between the two buildings. The main building houses the reception, restaurant and bar. Both buildings have a lift. All rooms (superior, standard and balcony) are en-suite with TV, a/c, hairdryer and safe. On arrival, our coach may not be able to park directly in front of the hotel due to narrow streets, so there may be a short walk – with luggage – from the coach to hotel and vice versa. Sumptuous buffet breakfasts and all but one dinner are included in the holiday charge.
