Sailing the mighty River Danube, we’ll find ourselves immersed in the heart of Old Europe. Experience the vineyards of the Wachau Valley, imposing castles and royal palaces, medieval towns with cobbled streets and Viennese kuchen.
SHORE WALKS AND EXCURSION HIGHLIGHTS:
Regensburg - Situated in a scenic setting at the confluence of the Danube, Naab and Regen, we spend the afternoon exploring this maze of historic streets, squares and monuments.
Passau - We make a short visit to the old town and, time permitting, take a riverside stroll overlooking the towering spires of St Stephen's Cathedral.
Linz - We'll walk through the Old Town and Hauptplatz Square, home to some of Linz's finest Baroque architecture and the impressive Holy Trinity column.
Emmersdorf & Melk - On opposite sides of the Danube we visit both towns before cruising east along the river taking our lunch whilst traversing the terraced vineyards and landscapes.
Dürnstein - We’ll explore Dürnstein with a guide, a wonderfully sleepy town dominated by its medieval castle. We include some wine tasting and an optional steep walk to the ruins of Burgruinne Dürnstein.
Vienna - A full day to explore this historic city with our guide, we'll visit the Hofburg Palace, in which the Imperial Treasury houses a collection of rare treasures including the Imperial Crown, Orb and Sceptre of Austria.
Bratislava - Our tour includes St Martin's Cathedral, the imposing Bratislava castle, Primatial Palace Operahouse and the Blue Church. After we take a short 20 mins cycle ride to Devin Castle Ruine.
Budapest - We'll visit Buda's castle district, seeing the Szechenyi Chain Bridge which spans the Danube and if time allows take the funicular to the Royal Palace. We'll spend some time in Pest visiting the Jewish Quarter with local guide.
