Overview

Holiday Highlights

  • Enjoy the comfort of onboard ship services throughout including meals, pools, sports and leisure facilities, entertainment, and relaxation deck when resting the legs.
  • Discover a multitude of different experiences including coastal walks, bird watching, plantation houses, diverse national parks, mangroves, rainforest and desert cacti, golden sand tropical beaches, plus a wealth of history and culture.
  • An RWH tour leader throughout and local guides in most ports for specialist insights and additional support.
  • A series of well-established walks so you can uncover the diversity of the Caribbean, because the world is more beautiful on foot.

These fly-cruises visit the sun-kissed Caribbean islands and are consistently popular amongst our customers. They offer each person the chance to discover the sheer diversity of each area from rainforests and national parks, to wildlife, tropical beaches, and colonial cities. All the while enjoying winter sun and an exotic cocktail or two. Although this tour is Grade 4, some walks can be graded as Grade 3. Please see our 'Proposed Itinerary' section for more information so you can be sure that each walk is within your capability. All walks are subject to change. Details for each walking grade are found below:

Grade 3 (easy) - Easy countryside walking with plenty of breaks, normally taking up the whole day. Most of these holidays have an element of sightseeing. You are unlikely to walk more than 6 miles and the cumulative ascents and descents will be gradual and range from minimal to 300m.

Grade 4 (moderate) – Full and half day walks at a moderate pace over hilly terrain. Most of these holidays have an element of sightseeing as well. Half day walks will probably involve about 3 hours of walking, with full day walks having around 5 hours. Expect ascents and descents of up to 600m.

Our bottom line is happy travellers, and to that end we trust our tour leaders to use the itinerary below as a basis for providing you with a great holiday. We expect our leaders to adjust the itinerary if the weather, group ability or other local conditions make that necessary. There are normally more options available to our leaders than those listed below and one or more of these options may well be chosen. All distances, heights & timings are approximate

SHORE WALKS AND EXCURSION HIGHLIGHTS:

Barbados – Walk through the lush tropical worlds of Welchman’s Hall Gully and Andromeda Gardens. Visit the National Museum housed in a former prison and Gun Hill Signal station for its fantastic views and perhaps enjoy a flying fish sandwich lunch at Sunbury Plantation House.

Antigua – Expert insights and hiking with a local guide as we summit Signal Hill with incredible 360-degree views over the south side of the island. Visit the cultural heritage site of Nelson’s Dockyard.

Grenada – Enjoy a classic Caribbean experience in Grenada’s southern peninsula. Colourful houses, exotic trees and fauna, an idyllic beach and swimming opportunities await as well as time to explore the capital of St George’s.

St Kitts – With a local guide, explore the Valley of the Giants on foot, so called because of the huge rainforest trees. Stop at Romney Manor, home of the Caribelle Batik factory, with wonderfully landscaped gardens overlooking the Caribbean coastline.

St Maarten – A cultural melting pot of Dutch and French heritage. Walk with a guide around the northern tip of the island along the ‘Sentier des Froussards’ with outstanding views, plus the chance to view endangered cacti such as ‘tête à l’anglais’. Swimming opportunities to round off the afternoon.

Havana, Cuba -   Experience Havana with a guided tour of the four leafy plazas of old Havana and it’s cobbled streets, before continuing through the city using it’s famous open-top taxis.

Tobago - With a local guide we travel to the main ridge of Tobago and walk along the Gilpin Trace trail, well known for its fantastic and colourful bird watching to reveal yet another side to Caribbean life.

Bonaire - We visit Washington Slagbaai National Park and explore on foot, plus spend time in the capital of Kralendijk, discovering the bustling outdoor craft and eclectic produce market.

Aruba & Curaçao – Why choose one when we can visit both islands! Located off the coast of Venezuela and surrounded by an intricate coral reef and year-round climate. Two different walks within Arikok National Park reveal an old adobe farmhouse and underground cave network, both guided by an experienced park ranger.

St Lucia – Delve into a more remote side of the island and hike accompanied by the local guide. Visit the village of Anse La Raye for a real slice of St Lucia, and swimming opportunities to cool down afterwards.

Tortola – Head for the capital of the British Virgin Islands where we enjoy a coastal walk with our local guide, finishing with swimming and rum punches at Smugglers Cove. In the afternoon, we visit the Botanical Gardens which are recovering from Hurricane Irma.

Dominican Republic – With a local guide, we walk the cobbled streets lined with 15th and 16th century buildings that retrace the city’s unique history and immerse ourselves in the real Dominican countryside experience in the open-air safari truck.
