The Bhutanise live in harmony with nature and have adopted strict policies on tourism and development. Tucked away on the eastern side of the Himalayas, it is not an easy place to get to and has very little accommodation for visitors. The King of Bhutan said 'the happiness of his country is more important than gross national product', and you can see this in the smiling, friendly faces of its people who have escaped almost all Western influences. All this makes a recipe for some beautiful, fascinating and cultural walking in Bhutan.
