Day 2 to 7
During our time here, we will experience a variety of picturesque and interesting walks which may include one or more of the following examples.
Oberammergau to Graswang and Linderhof - A look round the town of Oberammergau, followed by a lovely walk from Oberammergau to Graswang. We then take the bus to Linderhof where we have a guided tour around the palace, grotto & gardens. 6 miles (9.5km); Ascent / Descent 100m; 2 hours.
Staffelsee - A beautiful walk through beech and conifer woods and open meadows to a traditional beer garden by the picturesque Staffelsee for a swim & a beer. Returning by boat and train. 11 miles (17km); Ascent 250m / Descent 400m; 5 hours.
Hinteres Hörnle, & a River Walk to Oberammergau. An exciting ride up the chairlift before a short climb for amazing views, followed by a lovely river walk, then a visit to the Passion Play Theatre & Museum. 6.5 miles (10km); Ascent / Descent 180m; 4 hours.
Bad Kohlgrub to Oberammergau via the Hörnle Mountain - A steady climb up the Hörnle, or an option to take the chairlift for stunning views to the snowy mountains, an inviting peak and a mostly descending path back to the valley, finishing at a beer garden. 8-9 miles (12.5 or 14.5 km); 300m Ascent / Descent 880m; 6 hours.
Schleifmuhlenklamm and Purschling Hut Mountain Day – A steady climb up through the Schleifmuhlenklamm gorge along a cool and shady path, followed by a climb up through the woods to the Purschling Hut. A fabulously situated mountain hut and a perfect refreshment stop. 7-8 miles (11-13km); Ascent 940 / Descent 470m; 5.5 hours
Garmisch Valley & Ettal - An action packed day – a fabulous walk with great views of the Zugspitze range & Garmisch. 2 lakes, 2 balcony paths & remote meadows. Then to Ettal to relax in a beer garden in the grounds of a magnificent Benedictine monastery, where delicious Ettal beer is brewed by the monks themselves. 9 miles (15km); Ascent / Descent 420m; 5 hours
In addition we have included a day trip by private coach to Hohenschwangau and Ludwig II’s amazing castle of Neuschwanstein where there are options at both grades. We do not include a visit to the castle itself (from €16.30), which must be booked locally. There is easy walking available around the beautiful Schwansee or Alpsee lakes, or harder walking with spectacular views over the castle towards the Tegelberg mountain.
