Walking holidays are all about experiencing a destination up close, and some of our walking holidays are planned especially for flower lovers, taking time to really appreciate all forms of flora and birdlife along the way.
What can I expect?
These holidays will have a tailored itinerary to ensure you see the best displays of natural beauty in the local area. They also follow an unhurried pace – which will be preferable for the photographers out there – but tend to span a range of walking grades from easier to intermediate.
Where can I go?
Spring and early summer are the ideal times for flower and bird lovers to enjoy blooming landscapes. For example, bird watchers will love spring in Minorca where every day brings sightings of amazing birdlife such as Egyptian vultures, egrets and kites. For those interested in the island's flora, you may be lucky enough to discover some of the first wild orchids, purple sage or even a prickly pear! Flower and bird enthusiasts will enjoy our late March 2009 departure on the Walking in the Algarve holiday. We also have two tours on our Walking in Madeira programme where more time will be taken to appreciate the island's plants and flowers. Southern Greece offers some simply beautiful walking trails abundant in spring flowers such as anemones or orchids and as the holiday and terrain progresses, so do the species in bloom. Our Spring in Crete and Easter in Samos holidays also have departures for flower lovers. For those who fancy travelling further afield, why not try South Africa and our Flowers of Cape Province tour? Along with many types of protea, rooibos (known now for the tea) and sparaxis, South Africa has an amazing abundance of plant life. Why not try central America where our March 2009 departure to Colourful Cuba has a walking programme designed to make the most of the region's flora.
