Walking on St Lucia
The Caribbean's great beauty; the Helen of the West Indies.
OverviewSt Lucia is one of the chain of Windward Islands in the Caribbean, with its shores washed by both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
The island has much to offer from the inland tropical rain forests that house some of the world’s most beautiful plants and fruits, the rare and exotic wildlife, coral reefs, waterfalls, and numerous trails into the hills and through rain forests that provide an exciting alternative to beach life.
St Lucia is a volcanic island and more mountainous than any other in the Caribbean. The Pitons rise to 798m and dominate the skyline with Gros Piton, one of the Caribbean’s most famous landmarks, offering magnificent views from the summit. Some days we will be able to finish a walk at a tropical beach and plunge into the warm Caribbean waters.

I started leading for Countrywide Holidays in 1970 and spent summers at their guest houses in Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland. I went on to act as a guide for the Austrian Alpine Club. My career and family commitments took me away from leading but when the opportunity arose I started again in the late 1990s.
