Walking from Iseo
One or two weeks walking amongst the lakes and mountains of northern Italy
OverviewIseo is one of the lesser-known, smaller yet most picturesque of the Italian lakes. It is surrounded by pre-Alpine mountains, topped by Mt Guglielmo, which provide some excellent walking with fabulous views over the lake and mountains. This is some of the loveliest country around the Italian lakes.
Our base is in Sale Marasino, an old fishing village which has retained its ancient houses and alleyways. It lies on the eastern shore of the lake from which Monte Isola (605m) rises, where we can walk through olive groves to the sanctuary of the Madonna on the summit. Our stay here offers a great combination of walking with some sightseeing, with possibilities for the latter to Verona and Bergamo. Using the private railway that runs from Brescia up the shore of Lake Iseo to Edolo, it is possible to explore further north.

John has been a compulsive traveller and walks leader since high school. Having completed the Three Peaks challenge of ascending Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon within 24 hours he's also clearly got an adventurous streak. These days he leads mainly in Greece and Turkey with the odd trip to other destinations which have attracted his attention.![]()
