Walk the Route St Jacques.
Continuous walking from Le Puy to Conques with transported baggage
OverviewIn the Middle Ages pilgrims walked in their thousands (and in great discomfort) from numerous points across Europe to congregate in Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. We stay in rural hotels, and unlike the original pilgrims our baggage is sent on separately leaving us to carry a day sack.
We start our walk in the historic town of Le Puy set in the heart of an ancient volcano, follow the ’Sentier de St Jacques’ westward through the dramatic gorges of the Allier river, the Aubrac plains and the Lot Valley to reach the famous pilgrimage town of Conques.
Days are generally of around 10-15 miles with one of nearly 17, the total distance being about 125 miles. On some days we walk at the top of the holiday grade though the terrain is well-trodden with mostly moderate gradients.
