Walking Holidays in the UK
Holidays Made in Britain!
The United Kingdom is the quintessential destination for rambling, hiking and walking holidays. We've been described as a small island or, more accurately, a small group of islands but in terms of the variety and magnificence of scenery the UK certainly punches well above its weight.
The UK boasts some of the World’s very best scenery, picturesque villages, pleasant strolls and exhilarating treks. The Ramblers Countrywide programme provides walking adventures from rugged hikes around the Orkney Islands to pleasant walks along the South Coast.
From the easiest of ambles, to sightseeing strolls taking in our natural heritage and history, good day hikes in moorland and hill country to some of the most challenging guided mountain walks anywhere in the world, you'll find it here.
The south west coast railway line fully reopened on 4 April 2014 following repairs to the line at Dawlish. Our Devon Riviera and St Ives & the Cornish Coast holidays are once again easily accessible by rail.
The best of the English Lake District
A jewel in our Countrywide crown is Hassness Country House, our most popular UK property. Hassness Country House is ideally situated for walking holidays in the heart of the Lake District. We offer a range of graded walks, relaxing breaks from 3 to 7 nights and special interest holidays such as Nordic walking and geology. Recently refurbished the house offers a real homely feel with our own resident chef on hand to supply cooked breakfasts, packed lunches, evening meals and afternoon tea. Looking for something different? Hassness Country House can be hired for private group or independent holidays.
Something a little different...Looking for more pampering on holiday? Combine great walking on the South Downs with a little pampering on our new Spa and Walk break at Champneys’ Forest Mere Hotel.
Independent self-guided walkingIf you'd prefer a more independent holiday, take a look at our Load Off Your Back Self Guided Walking programme.
These holidays have an historical or archaeological interest and will give you a glimpse into the diverse past along the routes.
Discover some magnificent scenery sculpted by years of geological processes and get a glimpse of what’s under our feet as we walk.
In the UK we are never far from our amazing coast, which offers so much good walking close to home, take advantage of this with our UK Cruise and Walk selection.
Get a taste for island life at a different pace and with different perspectives, from the Channel Islands to the Orkneys. Islands have been places of refuge, fought over and sought after, and with their own stories.
These give you the opportunity to walk long distance trails in manageable sections, so you can explore some of the UK best trails without the need to pack and unpack everyday.
Get in the festive spirit and enjoy Christmas walking. Or take a New Year break after the Christmas excess and get the blood flowing again!
Our birds and flower holidays follow an unhurried pace and span a range of walking grades, from leisurely to moderate. There's always time to take a closer look or a photograph.
By popular demand, on some of our holidays we allow a limited number of dogs to join their owners and the rest of the group on walks from dog friendly hotels.
Our Load Off Your Back programme features the best of Britain’s long distance paths and National Trails for you to explore independently but supported by all our years of experience.
Join one of our holiday courses and improve your skills and confidence out in the hills. You can learn useful new outdoor skills from scratch or brush up a skill that's become a bit rusty.
