Travel Information

How we get you on holiday

We understand that how you travel is an important part of your holiday. The majority of our holidays include travel by economy scheduled or charter flight services, and where applicable, rail travel is second-class.

British Airways preferred partner

For many years, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays has enjoyed an excellent working relationship as a preferred partner to British Airways. BA offers an extensive network of destinations, upgrades and services with a cabin to suit every budget.  Why not look at the options available to you and read our information on their online check-in system.

Travel authorities

Ramblers Worldwide Holidays is bonded with and regulated by various travel authorities who ensure you get a holiday service you can trust.  You can find out more on our licensing & bonding page.

We have a page of links to a variety of travel-related websites where you may also find information of use to you.

Regional departures

Our clients travel with us from all over Britain and we recognise that it can be both difficult and expensive travelling to airports in the south east of the country so we try to cater for this.

In the information for each holiday we indicate where we are able to offer direct flights from Manchester, although not necessarily on all dates. These flights usually incur a supplement; the amount depends on availability at the time the request is received. It can be difficult to secure sufficient seats on direct flights, so it is imperative to book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. On an increasing number of holidays, we are now able to offer direct flights from Birmingham; again, generally at a supplement. As with Manchester, these are subject to availability at the time of the request - please phone our Reservations Department on 01707 331133 for details.

Luggage regulations on board flights

In a worldwide attempt to improve security at airports and on board flights, restrictions are in place concerning what can be taken on to aircraft. Ramblers Worldwide Holidays are a British Airways Preferred Partner and many of our holidays use BA flights. To see BA’s advice on what you can and cannot take as luggage and, in particular, what liquids can be taken in hand luggage please click here.

Flight & Rail

Flight seats
Where we have seats held on scheduled service flights, the unsold seats normally have to be returned to the airline 14 weeks before our holiday’s departure. Please do book early as we are not always able to buy back seats at the original price, resulting in a supplementary charge. Occasionally this can also be the case when we’ve filled our original seat allocation.

Connecting UK Add-On Flights
We are able to offer connecting flights in conjunction with the international flight arrangements for many of our holidays. The prices are very competitive (see holiday pages for details) and in order to benefit from complete peace of mind, ask us to book the flights for you. Additional advantages are:

Check in for the whole journey, removing the need to reclaim luggage and re-check in at London.
Less connecting time required.
Flexibility to change to another flight if the international times change.
Knowledge that the airline will take responsibility for getting you to your final destination if a connection is missed due to a major delay.

Flight and Rail Times

All provisional outward departure and homeward return flight or rail times featured are correct at  time of writing, but they can change. Please do not finalise any independently booked connecting domestic travel  before you have checked with us, and certainly not earlier than twelve weeks before your intended date of travel. On occasions, there may be onerous cancellation terms on pre-booked domestic travel and hotels for which we cannot accept responsibility, and you are advised to check on these carefully before finalising arrangements. Please see paragraph 7 of our Terms and Conditions.

Catering on Flights and Eurostar

Many scheduled and charter airlines now charge for on-board food and beverages. The latest information relating to this will be sent with your travel documents. Passengers travelling on holidays using Eurostar can purchase food and drink on board the train. Passengers who upgrade to Eurostar First Class are served a complimentary meal on board.

Extended travel delays

Flights can be delayed – it’s beyond our control – but we and the airlines concerned make every endeavour to provide refreshments and, when necessary, accommodation in reasonable relation to time of day. In the event of a delay to your return flight, for example due to industrial action at the airport or unexpected bad weather, although we will provide you with reasonable assistance, we will not be responsible for any additional accommodation costs for additional days that you must stay in the destination before your return flight.

Lost or Delayed Baggage

In the event of lost or delayed baggage, alhough we will provide you with reasonable assistance, the Montreal Convention provides that it is the responsibility of the airline to deal with baggage problems and provided limits to the liability they have to passengers.

Joining and leaving from abroad

If you wish to organise your own flights from a non-UK or provincial airport, or travel by rail or car to the holiday centre, ‘no-travel’ reductions are often available, although there can be restrictions due to our airline or rail company commitments - please call for details.

Before finalising any independent travel arrangements, check with us, as schedule changes do occur. Don’t book independent arrangements with onerous cancellation terms more than three months before departure without reference to us. See Flight and Rail Times paragraph above.

If you do plan to join a holiday locally, please tell us at least 14 weeks before departure. Do make it clear to us where you propose to join and leave the group - cities such as Rome, Milan and New York are served by more than one airport and we don’t want you to wait at the wrong one.

We regret that a change from a booking including flights to a ’no travel’ booking without flights within 14 weeks of departure is usually not available without penalty, due to our obligations with the airlines or other carriers.

Should you be unable to join your holiday due to the cancellation or delay of your independent flight, please be aware that additional costs and losses involved in meeting up with your chosen tour may not be covered by your airline or insurance policy, as most low-cost carriers are not covered by ABTA, IATA or ATOL. In addition, although we will make every attempt to minimise your losses, we would not be able to absorb the cost of any cancellation charges. In the event of strikes, although we will endeavour to offer reasonable assistance, our ability to assist you may be limited when there are delays in your selected return to the UK.

Tailor made extensions

Many of our clients like to ‘bolt-on’ a mini independent package to their holiday with an extra stay at our hotel(s) at the start or end of the stated holiday dates. This is a great way to take advantage of the area, allowing you to explore alone, visit relatives or simply relax. We can usually offer extra hotel nights at an advantageous rate, and many of the airlines we use as well as rail companies allow some flexibility if arranged more than three months before departure, enabling us to change flights/rail journeys  for a small charge. Please call for details.
