Through the Mountains of Majorca

Our 65th Anniversary Luxury Trek on the Pedra en Sec
Overview

Majorca is an island close to our hearts. We have been exploring here since 1953, and it never ceases to delight our groups. Indeed even though we now visit most other Mediterranean islands, Majorca remains many walkers’ favourite island in the sun. The Serra de Tramuntana range which runs along the north west coast is criss-crossed by hiking trails. In the valleys there are flowery villages with lemon, orange and loquat trees in the gardens. Beyond them the paths pass through olive groves, giving way to holm oak and pine woodland.  Above that are trails with splendid views.

To celebrate our 65th anniversary in 2011 we had to find something special on this island, and our holiday along the fabulous new long distance footpath, the Pedra en Sec, a new route, from Valldemossa to Pollenca is perfect. Its name means the Dry Stone Route, recognising the walls, threshing floors, charcoal pits, shepherds huts and many other limestone structures which are a key part of Majorca’s identity and scenery.

We base ourselves in two centres, Puerto de Soller and Pollenca, taking private transport each day, where needed, to the start and from the finish of our walks. Puerto de Soller has two sandy beaches, and Pollenca is an intimate Majorcan town 2.5 miles from the east coast. You will be able to visit the local shops or markets to buy provisions for picnic lunches.
