The Romance of the Italian Lakes

Enjoy the charm and beauty of the most picturesque lakes in the world
Overview

The very names of Lakes Maggiore and Como resonate with romanticism. Wordsworth, Byron and Keats have sung the praises of these landscapes.

**We start in Stresa on the shores of Lake Maggiore, an elegant resort of Belle Epoque hotels overlooking the magical Borromean Islands. Using the ferries plying the lake we can take in the best walking and sightseeing around this beautiful lake. Bellagio, our second centre, is superbly situated on the promontory between Lake Como and Lake Lecco. Wonderful views are a feature of our walking here. There are gentle climbs to hillside chapels and views of Lakes Piano and Lugano and great challenges on the higher grade walks.

**On 28 April 2012 our first centre is Belgirate on the western side of Lago di Maggiore just south of the Swiss border, a classical picture postcard setting from which to enjoy the lake and an ideal starting point for our walks.

I started leading for Countrywide Holidays in 1970 and spent summers at their guest houses in Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland.  I went on to act as a guide for the Austrian Alpine Club.  My career and family commitments took me away from leading but when the opportunity arose I started again in the late 1990s.
