The Moorish Trail
A journey by train from Marrakech to Madrid.
OverviewEarly in the 8th century, Moorish soldiers crossed from Africa to the Iberian Peninsula bringing their culture, architecture and cuisine. Moorish influence in Spanish culture continues today as we discover on this journey.
From Marrakech, we explore the city and discover the High Atlas Mountains walking into the Ourika Valley.
Leaving Marrakech, on the first of our train journeys, we travel to Rabat, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, and its modern capital. The city has some of the finest and oldest Arab monuments in the country covering the span of Moroccan history. From Tangier, we take the ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar to southern Spain.
Our first train journey in Spain takes us to Ronda, offering breathtaking views from its arched bridge spanning the Tajo gorge. Continuing to Granada, we visit the Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens.
Córdoba, once the Iberian Peninsula’s Islamic capital, is known for the Mezquita with its lustrous decoration. We take the high speed AVE train to Madrid. We’ll explore the city with the chance to take in one of its many museums.
