The Isles of Scilly

An archipelago of old world England basking in the waters of the Gulf Stream.
Overview

28 miles southwest of Land’s End lie the Isles of Scilly, where the warm waters of the gulf stream ensure the islands have an exceptionally mild climate and their relative remoteness has kept alive an Englishness of a bygone age in this unspoilt sub-tropical paradise.

We stay on St Mary’s, the largest of the five inhabited islands and spend our days enjoying the coastal scenery, big skies, rock formations, archaeological sites, wonderful beaches, heathland, rare flora and wildlife - particularly seals and birdlife. The Scillies in their entirety have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and half the landscape as Sites of Special Scientific Interest. It’s quite a place.

With a local guide and your Ramblers Countrywide Leader, we’ll explore St Mary’s including the old town, Garisson and Peninnis Head and the other ’off-islands’ in a series of gentle rural rambles of discovery - the Scillies have 60 miles of remarkable paths and walking routes. We’ll hopefully take in the beaches and famous gardens of Tresco, the southernmost inhabited island of St Agnes or the wildlife of St Martin’s to the north.
