New experiences; extra dimensionsAs always we have tours with a special interest twist and new ways to enjoy your walk!
Many activities combine perfectly with a walking holiday. So many of our tours have a special interest theme that, led by our excellent tour leaders, really gets the most out of your destination. Each of these holidays displays the relevant icon clearly next to their description, promising you a marvellous balance to your walking holiday.
Walking and Cooking
If you enjoy good food, walking in stunning scenery and fancy learning some authentic cooking skills, our walking and cooking holidays have all the right ingredients! These holidays are all about exploring the regions and delving into their gastronomic and delectable secrets! Spend several afternoons with local chefs learning how to prepare traditional dishes from our bases in Tuscany. All levels of ’chef’ are welcome!
Cruise & Walk
Imagine combining the freedom of a walking or sightseeing holiday with the relaxed pleasures of cruising aboard a Fred. Olsen cruise liner - and that’s the unique essence of our Cruise & Walk holidays. Remember, on a Cruise & Walk holiday, every day offers the opportunity to explore a completely new place.
Great Journeys
Follow in the footsteps of some of the great travellers of a bygone age, experiencing several exotic destinations all in a single guided walking holiday of a lifetime. These holidays are generally longer in duration and lower grade walking. Our great journeys traverse Australasia, Asia, Africa and the Americas. You can even walk all around the world in 40 days!
Pioneer
If you are looking for a more adventurous holiday, well off the tourist track, but not necessarily high grade walking, a Pioneer holiday may be for you. These are usually longer holidays and often (but not always!) long haul, exploring lesser-known destinations. Local conditions and facilities may be basic; events may require modifications to itineraries at short notice and there may be more travelling, possibly on poor roads - but despite the culture shock, the experience is well worth it!
Rail Journeys
Another new and exciting way to explore the world, our range of Rail and Walk holidays offers an alternative travel experience by combining the romanticism of classic rail routes with some fantastic destinations! Embark on a railway adventure and travel cross-country through spectacular scenery. We also highlight holidays with a significant local rail travel element.
Birdwatching and Walking
Great holidays for bird enthusiasts! We offer a considerable number proportion of our holidays where viewing birds and other wildlife in their diverse habitats is a major feature. In addition, if you are among the growing number who enjoy seeing a wide range of spectacular species of birds and observing their interesting behaviour in stunning surroundings, then one of our special ’Birdwatching and Walking Holidays’ is for you!
We’ve partnered with Swarovski Optik to ensure you have access to a 60x magnification telescope so that you can get really close to the action!
Snowshoeing
Ditch the skis, strap on a pair of snowshoes and walk into a pristine white wilderness.
Snowshoeing has experienced a renaissance in recent years. Forget any ideas of walking on tennis rackets – modern snow shoes are high-tec and light. You can learn how to use them in a few minutes and then, with your weight evenly spread, you can explore areas of the mountains out of bounds to skiers and enjoy a winter wonderland just as nature intended!
Skiing
Exciting and exhilarating, our Cross-Country and Downhill Skiing holidays cater for a broad range of abilities. This is what winter holidays are all about!
Cross-country skiing is a relatively easy activity to learn, enabling you to explore and enjoy more of the beauty of the alpine valleys and winter landscapes.
Our downhill skiing holidays are aimed at those who have had several weeks’ tuition, experience in recent years, and are happy controlling their speed and turning on red runs. You will enjoy an extensive network of pistes and there’s enough variety for a busy week’s skiing at easy intermediate level.
Sightseeing
Our ‘Sightseeing’walking holidays are those that have itineraries with special historical or sightseeing interest. Often in towns or cities, these holidays usually involve lower grade, easier walking and allow you to experience life at a slower pace with some free leisure time if you want it.
Flora and Walking Holidays
Designed so you can appreciate the flowers in their natural environment, these holidays are planned to appeal to those who enjoy displays of natural beauty locally and in the wild. Led by leaders with an interest in flowers, some of whom are botanists and some are keen gardeners with an interest in flowers and plants around the world, these holidays follow an unhurried pace and span a range of walking grades from easier to intermediate.
Spring and early summer are the ideal times to enjoy blooming landscapes. Spring in Minorca gives you the opportunity to discover some of the first wild orchids, purple sage or even a prickly pear! Whilst in Southern Greece our beautiful walking trails are abundant in flowers such as anemones or orchids. For those who fancy travelling further afield, why not try South Africa to see protea, rooibos and sparaxis.
The Flora &Walking programme is great for nature lovers and photographers too!

Will I be fit enough? You don’t necessarily have to be used to walking in the local hills or hiking up mountains! We want to make the great pleasures of walking available to all, so whether you’re an experienced walker or not, our wide range of easier to adventurous walking grades ensure that there is something for everyone, whatever style of walking you prefer.
Even if you have never been on one of our holidays before, or don’t really consider yourself a walker, most people have a general level of fitness suitable for our lower grade holidays. It’s amazing how much walking you do during your everyday activities!

D+ Grade Holidays - You’re the sort of walker who enjoys a full day out in the Yorkshire Dales, the South Downs, along the Cornish or Pembrokeshire Coast Paths, or other similar undulating walks.
C Grade Holidays - You enjoy walking up British mountains like Scafell or Snowdon and really like the challenge of reaching a peak.
C+ Grade Holidays - If you are happy climbing Ben Nevis and crossing Striding Edge, then you’re fine for a grade C+ holiday. Walking plays an important part in your life and you are up for a challenge.
