Sölden & Vent
Two centres in the Upper Ötztal Valley.ley.
OverviewThe Ötztal is an alpine paradise where you can enjoy the thrill of reaching high alpine peaks. There are magnificent views over the glaciers lying cradled beneath the mighty summits that feed them. Your efforts will be well rewarded; this is spectacular country! The first week is spent at Sölden, a splendid centre for walking from where the charming Windach Valley can be explored and fine viewpoints such as The Gaislachkogel (3038m) can be reached with the use of cable railways. Our hotel in Sölden has excellent sauna and spa facilities and is only a few minutes’ walk to the centre of town.
For the second week we move southwards further along the Ötztal Valley to Vent which at over 1800m is one of the highest villages in Austria. It lies at the head of a subsidiary valley to the Ötztal surrounded by the glaciers and summits of the Ötztal range but there is a surprising amount of good walking to be done without the need for an ice axe or rope. It may be possible to ascend Saykogel or Kreuz Spitze, both over 3300m. Hotel Vent is the perfect place to relax after a good day’s hiking, whether in the spa area or resting on a sunbed on the sun terrace.

I started leading for Countrywide Holidays in 1970 and spent summers at their guest houses in Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland. I went on to act as a guide for the Austrian Alpine Club. My career and family commitments took me away from leading but when the opportunity arose I started again in the late 1990s.
