Pedalling through the Low Country

Cycling and sight seeing from Alkmaar in the Netherlands
Overview

The Netherlands have all the advantages you might look for when choosing a cycling holiday. The terrain is as cycle friendly as any in Europe, the infrastructure for cyclists is second to none with nearly every road having a dedicated cycle path and the history, ancient town centre and fields of flowers all add up to make a powerful case for choosing to come here.

From our base in the historic city of Alkmaar, famed for its cheese market, we can explore the back roads canals and dykes so typical of the local terrain. The north sea coast and the inland seas are easily explored. We will have some time without bikes in Amsterdam, the renowned fascinating city and by way of extreme contrast the sand dunes and birdlife of Texel island.
