Norwegian Winter

And the spectacular Northern Lights.
Overview

In Norway they have real winters. A metre of snow lying on the ground is not uncommon in Tromsø in the winter, and in the surrounding mountains even more can be expected. Our cruise takes us into the depths of this magical world. We sail up the coast of Norway, passing well beyond the Arctic Circle. By day we walk, snowshoe, toboggan, go dog-sledding, visit museums and the Ice Hotel, learn about the local culture and go wildlife spotting. In all our ports apart from Bergen, we have local experts who will guide us, in addition to our Ramblers Cruise & Walk leader. In 2012 our ship hugged the coast of Norway as it travelled north and then south, with snow-capped mountains all the way and glimpses into the wintry fjords – we anticipate that the captain will take a similar route in 2013.

The winter activities we have arranged are good for anyone who is moderately fit and up for some fun in the snow. Please see the photos on our website, which give you a good indication of what is involved. You don’t need any previous experience of any activity to take part – where necessary full instructions and a safety briefing will be given. We will do our very best to carry out all the activities listed, but it must be emphasised that this is an Arctic winter holiday. The Norwegians are experts at dealing with extreme weather and we should have a huge amount of fun, but don’t be surprised if there’s the odd blizzard and two metres of snow!

At the end of each day we return to the warmth and comfort of Boudicca for an excellent dinner. By night we hope to be blessed with heavenly light shows.
