Island Hopping in the Eastern Aegean

Five Greek Island jewels
Overview

Greece's islands in the Eastern Aegean Sea lie closer to the Turkish coast than the Greek mainland and centuries of occupation by the Crusaders, Ottomans and Italians have left a wonderful blend of architecture and cultures.

We begin our journey on the island of Kos, whose harbour is guarded by the imposing castle of the Knights of St. John. On the smaller island of Kalymnos, we enjoy coastal and mountain walks, all offering splendid views.

Leros is our next port of call with the attractive town of Platanos, spilling over the hillsides to Agia Marina on the sea and the small resort of Pandeli. Another short sea crossing brings us to Patmos, where we stay in its attractive little capital of Skala.

We end our journey on Samos where our walks follow mule tracks and coastal paths to small villages and pleasant beaches.
