Hiking in the Gran Paradiso

Italian Mountain Heaven
Overview

The Gran Paradiso is a fantastic, little known, and as yet quite unspoiled Italian national park. Tucked away in the north west of the country it has, for the most part, good quality tracks at very high levels.

We start in the Mont Avic National Park to the east, and move quickly west into the Gran Paradiso Park. We go over a number of spectacular and vertiginous 3,000m+ passes which give unparalleled perspectives over the valleys below. Weather and conditions permitting there are some excellent challenging peaks which we can climb.

Relatively few foreigners venture into these parts and the culture is distinctively Italian and very relaxed, although French is widely spoken. The wild and remote valleys of the Valsavarenche, Val di Rhemes, Valgrisenche, and Cogne are dotted with small but cosy villages where culinary and linguistic traditions are maintained alongside modern developments. This fabulous part of the autonomous region of Aosta will be our playground on this fantastic route.
