Hiking in La Vanoise
An introduction to mountain hutting.
OverviewNow in its third year, this hutting circuit is set in the particularly lovely Vanoise National Park in France. The tour takes in some of the very best the Vanoise has to offer, and at a grade which is attracting more clients to this wonderful way of seeing the Alps. Our refuges are carefully selected to provide the best possible mix of location, food and facilities. We start and finish in the delightful village of Pralognan-la-Vanoise but apart from that we are entirely in mountain refuges. Days are generally relatively short, between four to six hours of walking on generally very good paths. The scenery is simply spectacular.
Our route is a variant on the Tour of the Vanoise Glaciers – but seeing them rather than crossing them! We move around the Vanoise balcony paths with flower strewn meadows, tumbling streams and an abundance of ibex, chamois and marmots. This part of the Alps is particularly rich in flora and fauna and information on these is available in the huts and on the paths.

More infoAll party members must belong to a recognised Alpine association. Traditionally Ramblers Worldwide Holidays has recommended the Austrian Alpine Club which has reciprocal agreements with the Club Alpin Français, the Club Alpin Suisse, the Deutscher Alpenverein and the Club Alpino Italiano, but membership of any of these associations (or an association with full reciprocal rights) is acceptable. Please remember to bring your membership card on holiday or you will be liable to pay the difference between the members’ and non-members’ hut tariff. Membership of an Alpine association also gives priority when assigning accommodation.
Membership of the AAC automatically gives you their insurance cover as well. Please make sure that the insurance cover they provide suits all your requirements. If you are not a member of the AAC please make sure that you are insured for guided walking above 2000m. If you are a member of the AAC we do not insist that you take out any additional insurance, but if you are insured with another company, please make sure that these details are given to your leader at the earliest possible opportunity.
