From the Serengeti to Zanzibar
A Journey through Northern Tanzania.
OverviewThe Serengeti is probably the most famous national park on earth, but it is not the only jewel in Tanzania’s crown. Our journey starts at the base of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. From here we head east to the Usambara Mountains for walks between villages and to viewpoints over spectacular scenery, meeting friendly locals on the way. Then we go on safari in the Tarangire National Park, in search of its huge elephant herds, followed by the Lake Manyara National Park famous for its enormous variety of water birds, flocks of flamingos, hippos and baboons. Then on to the Serengeti where the variety of wildlife is overwhelming – lion, cheetah, giraffe, gnu, zebra, antelope – they are all here, and we have enough time to see them all – with any luck we’ll even spy a leopard.
The Ngorongoro crater is a veritable Garden of Eden. On safari at the bottom of the crater we are amidst the densest collection of mammals on earth. Here hundreds of thousands of hoofs tread across the savannah, and this is the best place in the world to see rhinos in the wild up close.
We end our journey on the exotic spice island of Zanzibar, off the Tanzanian mainland. We spend one night in Stone Town and then move to the east coast for some serious tropical R&R. In case white sand beaches, palm trees and swimming and snorkelling in turquoise waters don’t grab your imagination enough, we have arranged a spice tour of the island as well. This holiday is a wonderful combination of walking, safaris and relaxation. Pack your boots, your camera and your swimwear
and enjoy.
